While we want to see places in the glory of the sun, full of life and bustling with possibility, Tofino may be one of the few places that is perfect to visit when it’s slow and stormy.

If you like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain, right?

But make it - if you like saunas, surfing, and storm watching. This is a guide to a perfect off-season weekend with Duffin Cove that gives you the best of what Tofino has to offer.

Planning Your Off-Season Travels in Tofino

First things first, whenever you plan on coming, check-out the Tourism Tofino events guide to see what’s going on locally. There are weekly happenings (like Movie Mondays) and also exclusive ticketed events like Tofino Oyster Fest that you won’t want to miss out on!

Make sure to check the weather before you go - there may be delays or re-routing depending on what the weather is giving us. This can help you plan your route, know if you need extra snacks and just generally help you feel comfortable on your way here and while you’re here. Expect rain, plan for a storm, and hope the sun peaks through.

We have a packing guide to help you bring everything you need to feel comfortable and prepared.

What To Do During Your Off-Season Travels in Tofino

Tofino still has a plethora of things to offer at any season. And since it’s a slower time, it’s easier to book things as you want them instead of feeling like you have to plan months in advance.

This floating bathhouse where you can enjoy the unique experience of soaking in seaweed-salt-water-hot-tubs its truly unique. This experience can be enjoyed rain or shine, and is an incredible detox for the system. Cafes & Lounges in Tofino

While there are so many places in Tofino to grab a coffee, there are a few special places that you can truly curl up and lounge in. You can bring a book, journal, card game, a friend to talk to… Part of the off-season is slowing down, so you can take your time here.

This off-the-beaten-track cafe with asian inspired fares is one of the coziest places. With a fireplace in the middle surrounded by cushy chairs, leather couches and candle lit tables this is a perfect place to spill into after a rainy walk to warm-up, get some work done, or get lost in your latest substack read.

Part of the Wickaninnish Inn, this Cafe is right on the beach with a huge fireplace and windows. It’s cozy and comfortable with stuffed couches, arm chairs, and chess boards. This is more of a classic cabin feel that makes you feel right at home.
